How does Fireside Lodge Furniture care for the environment?
Our Northern White Cedar furniture is made from logs that are 6" diameter and smaller (the top of the tree). Up until about 12-15 years ago, the tops of the cedar trees were being stacked into piles and burned because they were too small to make lumber from. Our use of these logs for furniture means that we are saving part of the tree that would otherwise have been wasted in the forestry process.
Our Hickory line of furniture is made from logs that are a fast-growing renewable resource in the Southeastern United States. Each time a sapling is harvested, as many as five or six "sprouts" emerge from the stump. Then in a few as ten years, these "sprouts" can be gathered and the regeneration begins again.
All of our Barnwood is reclaimed from old barns that are being torn down and were originally built in the late 1800s. This is a totally recycled resource.
